Senator Joe Robach Honors Hilda Rosario Escher as Woman of Distinction
On May 15th, New York State Senator Joe Robach of Rochester presented Hilda Rosario Escher, the President and CEO of the Ibero-American Action League, with a New York State Senate’s 2012 Woman of Distinction Award.
As the President and CEO of the Ibero-American Action League, Escher has become an active leader of Rochester’s Hispanic community, advancing Ibero’s mission ““to foster growth and development, primarily of Hispanics, by providing advocacy, along with culturally sensitive programs and services, which are intended to raise their socio-economic status, well-being, and citizenship awareness.” While Ibero provides a wide range of family, youth, and development services for Latinos in the Rochester, Escher deserves special recognition for her work in Human Services.
As the former director of both Ibero’s foster care and developmental disability services, she not only reduced the average length of a child’s stay in foster care, but also pioneered a model training program for foster parents. In addition, she substantially increased the services available to Latinos with developmental disabilities, working to open group homes and find employment opportunities for them.
In view of her excellent work, Senator Joe Robach chose to honor Hilda Rosario Escher with a 2012 Woman of Distinction Award. New York’s Women of Distinction program, which was created by the New York State Senate in 1998, seeks to recognize the achievements of exemplary New York women who represent the qualities of leadership, compassion, and diligence. Escher, with her admirable work in enriching the quality of life for Rochester’s Hispanic community, certainly exemplifies these values.
With this distinction, Hilda Rosario Escher joins a proud tradition of “Women of Distinction” recognized by Senator Joe Robach. Past recipients of the award include Jessie Marvin Lazeroff, Dr. Anne Kress, and Dr. Ruth Scott. Senator Joe Robach, in addition to his presentation of the 2012 Women of Distinction Awards, recently participated in and spoke at the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester’s 2012 Pink Ribbon Run/Walk event. A strong advocate for women’s interests, Robach looks forward to hosting his fifth annual Women’s Wellness Fair later this year.
