Tag details

Cancer refers to a class of diseases where abnormal cell growth occurs, often resulting in the growth of malignant tumors and cells that can attack and harm vital body systems. If left untreated, cancer may result in disability and death.

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide. People of all ages, races, and cultures can develop cancer, but risk increases with age. Common forms include cancers of the breast, lungs, colon, prostate, blood, lymphatic system, and skin.

Cancer can develop from a single cell that has undergone a structural mutation that allows it to rapidly multiply and invade surrounding tissues and cells. Genetics, environmental factors, and age all play a role in the development of cancer cells.

Early detection and effective treatment of cancer is increasing survival rates, as it breakthroughs in treatment methods, such as the use of chemotherapy and radiation.
